I use EMDR and Clinical Hypnotherapy to process trauma. The treatment is tailored to the needs of the individual, and either EMDR or Hypnotherapy, is selected as treatment method of choice. Sometimes both methods may be employed.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. The client is asked to think about a traumatic memory while focusing on eye movement. The eye movements are referred to as bilateral stimulation, and other forms of stimulation may be used too, for example, sound or tactile (tapping or buzzers held in hands). I use a light that moves laterally. Some clients have noticed that the memory becomes more vague and that it is emotionally less charged.
Clinical Hypnotherapy
I use a deep relaxation strategy to uncover traumatic memories. The meditative relaxation can also be used prior to commencement with EMDR. Once traumatic memories are recalled, I use what is called Ego State Therapy to work with different parts pertaining to the trauma. This is a powerful strategy to process the trauma.
