Linda completed her formal training at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She holds the following degrees: BA(Honours); MA(Clinical Psychology) and DPhil(Psychology). Linda is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and holds memberships with the Australian Psychological Society and the Institute of Clinical Psychologists. In her early years as a practicing Clinical Psychologist, Linda worked almost exclusively with children. She used Theraplay to treat a wide variety of presentations and issues, and conducted IQ tests to screen for learning problems. Linda later tailored her practice to work more with adults. Currently, she has closed her books for new child referrals and works more with older teenagers and adults. Linda’s early and ongoing experience working with children has equipped her well to offer counselling to parents, especially regarding special needs.
Linda has completed extensive training in Ego State Clinical Hypnotherapy, which she uses to uncover and treat all forms of abuse. She has also completed training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and Image Rescripting, which are used as stand-alone treatments or as complementary to hypnotherapy when working through- and processing trauma.
Linda also offers Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Schema Therapy and has been trained in each of these modalities. Linda was trained initially as a psychodynamic therapist and attended supervision for object relations psychoanalysis. This traditional form of therapy provides an in-depth understanding of the therapeutic relationship, which forms the basis of successful psychotherapy. Linda’s DPhil thesis was a qualitative study about therapist self-disclosure. As part of this research study, she interviewed many therapists about their lived experiences of the therapeutic relationship.
Linda works with couples, and uses an Emotion Focused Therapy approach. During couples work, Linda discerns negative reactions within the dyad, dysfunctional dynamics and communication styles. The focus becomes about effective and authentic communication to strengthen the couple’s attachment. Linda has experience working with infidelity and has attended training in this field. She has written a booklet about internet infidelity.
Linda has also conducted a number of Autism and ADHD assessments and continues to offer these assessments across the life span.
